EMOTION—in BLACK & WHITE and COLOR: 15 PHOTOGRAPERS at the Terrain Gallery   [ to return click here ]

Orange Tube by David Bernstein

David Bernstein , Orange Tube

Early in life I loved photographing people and scenes around me. In 1962 I walked into the Terrain Gallery and began a wonderful journey—learning about the opposites in everything, including myself.

A theme in my work is the color red and the many emotions it causes and represents: warmth, passion, anger, warning, life! Coming upon an abandoned red railroad car in, yes, Red Hook, I was thrilled at its vibrancy even in decay—with a playful orange tube nudging heavy metal and giving it motion.
