EMOTION—in BLACK & WHITE and COLOR: 15 PHOTOGRAPERS at the Terrain Gallery   [ to return click here ]

John Reddy, Antelope Canyon, Arizona

Some of my best photographs are the result of serendipity, such as "Smoky Sky—St. Mary Lake."  Simply being in the right place at the right time!  Others, like "Antelope Canyon" and "Wheatfield," are the result of conscious decisions about specific locations and choice of film.

I first became aware of opposites in art as a photography student at the age of 20.  My wonderful teacher, Rudi Dietrich, assigned as required reading, the book Aesthetic Realism: We Have Been There, about Eli Siegel's Theory of Opposites. Subsequently, I began to consciously notice opposites in the world around me.
